SYSTEMIC COACHING & CONSTELLATIONS
The principles, practices and application for individuals, teams, and groups by John Whittington
For the uninitiated, the term ‘Constellation’ might ring an unfamiliar bell when associated with the world of management and especially coaching techniques.
However, as author John Whittington gently introduces the reader into the realm of constellations and family systems, and kind of impact these systems may have on an individual or team performance is, to say the least, astounding.
This is not just another ‘book’. This work of labor goes way beyond merely being a book on coaching techniques and breaks the clutter with incisive clarity of thought and depth.
This scholarly work is a must-read for not only HR professionals but in fact for every individual as they traverse through this complicated journey of life. Applying the concept of organizational health and family systems to the business world, coach John Whittington elucidates the techniques in great detail handholding the practitioners and providing them with a blueprint to apply the techniques in real life.
To quote the author from one of his very powerful pieces on the subject,
“We are all born into and belong in systems, relationship systems. In our first, our family system, our deepest patterns begin to form, and we learn about finding our place and relative size.
As we grow, we join other systems, educational, social, and professional. In each, we learn how to tune into the unwritten rules that protect our belonging. Our sense of belonging in each informs our identity and colors our meaning-making. Each offers us powerful experiences – usually a mix of joyful and painful – and we soon learn how it is to feel included or excluded.
In some systems we thrive, in others, we just survive. We are left with an embodied sense of our relative place in each and carry that within us, on into the systems we join later.
Imagine all the systems in which you have belonged, behind you, as if each were an eyespot in your own peacock’s tail. The experience of joining, of belonging, and of leaving each of those systems is held within you as your private, inner constellation.”
Reading this book has proved to be an awakening of the self and hence, I highly recommend this book to one and all. Do not miss the surreal experience of validation of our intuitive judgment of situations, the relevance of context and systems, and the magic that happens when we connect the dots and suddenly everything makes perfect sense.
Embark on a transformative journey with this book.
Happy Reading!
